If you heard aboutĀ Help-Portrait in 2009, if you participated in 2009, if you wanted to participate in 2009 but were unable to, here’s your chance to get involved this year. Those of us behind putting this site together were actively involved in multiple events in and around Seattle last year. We are not an “official” affliate of Help-Portrait, nor do we claim to be. We are using this media platform along with Twitter and Facebook to get the word out about the Events we want to plan this year. Through this site we plan to share what we learned last year and what we are planning this year, as well as how we’re planning in the hopes that it might help someone else.
We currently have four confirmed locations, one will be early, on 11/13/10 and three so far on 12/4/10. If you have a location in mind, and are already on the path to putting your own event together, go for it!
If you are interested in being involved in the events we are planning, please take a moment to review the roles that we envision, below, and then fill out the survey. Every role is important here, and in our experience from last year, we need lots of people to edit, greet and just be there for the clients.
Help-Portrait Seattle Volunteer Survey!
Site Leader:
A Site Leader is kind of a Project Manager. From herding cats to communication to finding resources to maybe even taking some photos. We have a support group that will help make this happen, but the day of the event, at your site, you are the go to person.
Photographer:
As a Portrait Photographer you will be working with individuals and families to create their portraits. Please be comfortable with studio lighting and posing.
Assistant:
As an assistant you will be working with the photographer, this could mean holding a reflector, moving a light, helping to pose the family, or making silly faces to make the kids smile.
Editor:
As an Editor you will be doing some very minor post processing via Lightroom or Aperture. Ideally you have a computer to bring for the editing session, if not, we will figure that out. The editing should be limited to minor colour correction, but mostly cropping for our print output options, and burning some CD’s.
Make Up Artist:
In this role you will assist in making an already special group of people get that little boost they weren’t expecting!
Hair Stylist:
Aligned to the Make Up Artist, a little boost to make someone feel good!
Host:
This is a big one, a very important role. The host, will greet our clients, you’ll sign people in, introduce them to the photographer and editors, moving through each phase of the event. Portrait sessions can sometimes be uncomfortable for people, you will help put people’s minds at ease.
Security:
This sounds way more serious than it actually is, we envision this role as an extra set of eyes and hands, just in case, maybe you’re assisting, or greeting or hosting, but you know just in case.
Do you have other ideas on how you could help? How you could be involved? Let us know!
I’m trying to fill out the Volunteer survey but I’m not granted access to the spreadsheet.
Also, I did not see a page (blog) like this last year for the HP Seattle group. Who is running this? and is it just for organizational purposes, or is this where people who fall into one of the Site Leader/ Photog / Stylist positions submits their information to get involved? If I’m already targeting a certain group of people to get involved (my church), should I direct them to this page? Should I turn that into a separate event? I’m not sure who I’m asking, so if you don’t have answers to these questions, that’s fine too.
Hi Jenny,
I’m Kate, I participated on site at 3 Help-Portrait related events in Seattle last year, along with a few others that organised events, and so many more who volunteered to make things happen. We’ve kept in touch, done some other projects throughout the year, but wanted to start thinking big about this year. We just launched this blog to recap our participation in this project last year. We’re in the early stages of getting information on the blog but wanted to put a call out to volunteers so that we can get an idea of how many sites we can work with this year.
If you have a site already, that’s great! We can try to help you organise, or find people to lend a hand on the day of, or you can go it on your own. We just want to network and get the word out and see what happens.
The survey should be fixed, and I’ll be updating the blog with more detailed information about who we are.
Thank you for your interest! And if you have any additional questions, please feel free to email me: kate@helpportraitseattle.org
